What are my top three supplements and why?

I know you are inundated with products everywhere you look these days. It’s tough to know not only what is actually necessary, but what is best.

Supplements are kind of the Wild West as well, because there is no regulating body governing these products, and the marketing schemes are designed to make you think that all your problems will be solved by one little capsule per day.

When it comes to supplements, I am definitely picky about sourcing, quality, and potency - meaning where did this come from, is it what it says it is, and am I taking enough for the benefit I am hoping to achieve.

We all have individual needs based on our histories and goals, but there are a few supplements that I feel are a non-negotiable at this point for most of us. Let me tell you what they are and why:

1. A great quality multivitamin

  • Why? Because most of us (90% of us) are not getting enough nutrients in each day through diet alone. Even if your diet is pristine, our food quality is not what it once was. As the soil has become depleted due to over-farming, so has our food. Most commonly on bloodwork, I see deficiencies in vitamin D, folate, vitamin B12, and minerals. These inadequacies can be prevented by daily multivitamin support.

2. A great quality fish oil

  • Why? Because unless you are eating a fatty fish like salmon at least 2-3 times weekly, you are falling shy of your required intake on omega 3s. Omega 3s are incredibly important anti-inflammatories, supporting cardiovascular health, brain health, and hormonal health. I have seen correction of omega 3 deficiencies improve mental health, focus/concentration, joint pain, and skin health tremendously.

3. Magnesium - pick your form!

  • Why? Because most of us are not getting enough magnesium through the diet alone, and because it is incredibly versatile depending on how your health could be best supported. For example, if you have trouble sleeping and tend toward anxiousness, magnesium glycinate is your best friend. Constipation? Magnesium oxide or citrate. Muscle soreness? Magnesium malate. Brain health and concentration? Magnesium threonate. Heart health? Magnesium taurate. Multiple needs? You can take a blend or multiple forms together. Strand me on a dessert island, I’m bringing my magnesium.

Beyond this regimen, I have clients able to ensure healthy cholesterol, support thyroid function, have easier menstrual periods, combat heartburn, keep UTIs at bay, and so much more with personalized supplementation. But you have to know what to take, from where and HOW MUCH!

I know what it is like to have a drawer (or closet) full of supplements that you aren't sure are helpful or forgot why your purchased. Let's make sense of it together and use natural medicine to its highest potential in your life!
